How to Clean Inside Window Tracks: Step-by-Step

 

Prepare the Area and Remove Debris

 

• Remove the window sash if it’s easy to take out, or carefully lean it away from the track. This gives you unobstructed access.
• Sweep or vacuum loose dust and dirt from the track to prevent it from turning into a mud-cake once you add moisture.

 

Scrub the Tracks and Loosen Grime

 

• Dip an old toothbrush into hot, soapy water. Scrub every nook and cranny of the track, paying extra attention to corners where dirt loves to hide.
• Let the soapy solution sit on stubborn spots for a few seconds to really break down greasy buildup.
• If available, use a dedicated track brush for a deeper clean, but a toothbrush usually gets the job done.

 

Wipe Down and Dry the Tracks

 

• Wipe the interior of the track with a damp microfiber cloth to remove soap residue and loosened dirt.
• Dry the track thoroughly with a clean towel to avoid streaks and prevent new dirt from clinging to any wet surfaces.
• Run your finger along the track to ensure every spot is dry and smooth before sliding the sash back into place.
