How to clean stainless steel

March 29, 2016

Stainless steel is a popular material to use for many household appliances and products, especially in the kitchen. This is because the metal has an extremely high resistance to rust and corrosion and will last for a long time. However, it doesn’t necessarily always live up to its name and although it doesn’t rust easily, appliances can be prone to things like water marks and other kinds of stains over time. But what kind of products should you use to clean the difficult surface and how can you get it back to looking as good as new? We give you some tips to make sure that your stainless steel appliances sparkle again.

What do I need to clean it?

It doesn’t have to be a hassle to clean either and you only need water to get out most stains and marks. Surprisingly enough, just plain water works very well in most cases. It works perfectly when you use a microfiber cloth to make sure that you get out all of the small stains and marks. Our stainless steel cloth pack contains a microfiber cloth that is designed to pick up the smallest dirt particles from the surface to give the most thorough clean. You should also dry with a towel or cloth afterwards to get rid of any excess water and help to prevent unwanted water marks.

Clean with the grain

Although it’s not always obvious, stainless steel has a grain just like a piece of wood. These are very faint and barely noticeable but realising their direction will make cleaning and polishing your stainless steel appliances a whole lot easier. Find the direction that this grain runs and clean the steel along the grain. This will make it easier to get all of the dirt out of the crevices for a spotless finish. If you don’t clean along the grain it won’t affect your appliance, it may just make it a bit harder to get your desired finish.

Looking for a deeper clean?

If you’re still not quite satisfied and you think your appliances need a deeper clean, then you can use a small amount of washing up liquid or dish soap to help get your appliances clean again. We also have a natural mineral All Purpose Cleaner than can help. It removes stubborn dirt stains from stainless steel, kitchen sinks and all manner of surfaces. By using just a small amount of one of these products you will get your stainless steel surfaces thoroughly clean again in no time.

Polish your appliances

Over time, stainless steel can lose its shine and become dull looking. Even after you have thoroughly cleaned it you might not always get that high shine that you’re looking for. But you can restore the shine by using a simple household item. By using baby oil or mineral oil you can bring stainless steel back to its original shine. Simply apply the smallest amount to the surface your appliances will shine once again. You only need a minimal amount and you should also try to brush along the grain for the best results.

And that’s all it takes to get your stainless steel clean once again. With just a little bit of effort, you can get the water marks and stains out of your stainless steel. By following our easy tips you can get your appliances looking as good as new in no time at all.
